What is the fee titled "Franchise Fee" on my cable TV bill?
The Franchise Fee reflects the rent charged to Charter Communications in order to use public roads and right-of-way to provide cable TV service to subscribers in our community. This fee is based on 5 percent of the gross revenue collected by Charter. Federal cable legislation caps the amount to 5% and allows cable companies to pass on this fee directly to customers.
